VASER, PAL and lipo-contouring
Liposuction removes unwanted fat from selected donor areas to reshape body contour. At NEU the emphasis is on contouring rather than volume removed - liposuction is a body-contouring operation rather than a treatment for obesity.
There is no fixed number appropriate for every patient. The extent of treatment depends on health, body size, operative duration, anesthesia and the overall surgical plan.
Because larger-volume procedures may involve greater fluid shifts, longer operative time and increased physiologic stress, patient selection becomes especially important. BMI, medical conditions, number of areas treated, anesthesia, surgical duration and postoperative monitoring must all be considered.
Treatable areas include double chin, jaw, breast, arms, underarms, 360° abdominal, 360° full trunk, thighs and calves.
Most swelling gradually improves during the first several weeks, but residual swelling and tissue remodeling may continue for several months. Final contour should therefore be judged over months rather than days.
Techniques and options
PAL - Power-Assisted Liposuction (MicroAire)
A reciprocating cannula vibrating to-and-fro at 4000 cycles per minute breaks even the hardest fat with ease, allowing the surgeon to concentrate more on the contouring aspect of the procedure. This gives better outcome and shorter downtime due to less bleeding and swelling.
UAL / VASER - Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction
Uses ultrasonic waves emanating from a specialized probe that melts fat while preserving surrounding tissues such as blood vessels and nerves from damage. VASER has the advantage of a skin tightening effect that happens weeks after liposuction because of the heat produced during the procedure.
Recovery
- First 24 hours A compression garment prevents bleeding.
- First 4 weeks The garment reduces swelling and seroma (fluid) formation, and helps shape the operated area.
- Weeks 1-2 Many patients can return to selected routine activities, but this does not mean that healing is complete.
